The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the schedule for the upcoming two-match Bangladesh vs West Indies Test series, which will form part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle.
The first Test will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur from October 28 to November 1. The second and final Test will take place at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from November 5 to 9.
Before the Test series begins, the West Indies will play a three-day warm-up match from October 22 as part of their tour of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh 4th in WTC Standings
Bangladesh enter the series in fourth position in the current WTC standings.
The team recently drew its two-match Test series against Australia 1-1. Bangladesh won the opening Test by nine wickets, while Australia bounced back to win the second Test by an innings and 51 runs.
Bangladesh have played six Tests in the current WTC cycle, recording three wins, two defeats and one draw. Their other results include a 1-0 series loss against Sri Lanka and a 2-0 home series victory over Pakistan.
Bangladesh's position has also raised hopes of a potential push for their first WTC Final appearance. Chief selector Habibul Bashar previously said the team is well placed to target a top-two finish, with six Tests remaining in their campaign.
West Indies in 8th Position
The West Indies currently occupy eighth place in the nine-team WTC standings.
The Caribbean side have played 12 Tests, winning two, losing eight and drawing two. Their campaign began with five consecutive defeats, including a 3-0 home series loss against Australia and a 2-0 defeat against India.
The West Indies later registered a 1-0 home series victory over Sri Lanka before drawing their most recent two-Test series against Pakistan 1-1.
With Pakistan currently below them, the upcoming Bangladesh series represents an important opportunity for the West Indies to collect valuable WTC points.
Bangladesh vs West Indies Test Series Schedule
Match Date Venue
West Indies warm-up match October 22 Bangladesh
1st Test October 28-November 1 Mirpur
2nd Test November 5-9 Sylhet
The two Tests will contribute directly to the ongoing WTC cycle.
Bangladesh Have a Big WTC Opportunity
Playing at home gives Bangladesh an important opportunity to strengthen their position in the WTC standings.
A series win over West Indies would provide valuable points and could improve Bangladesh's chances of staying in contention for a top-two finish. However, qualification for the WTC Final will depend on results across the entire competition and the teams' final points percentages, rather than the outcome of one series alone.
The WTC is contested by nine teams, with the top two sides at the end of the league phase advancing to the Final.
For West Indies, meanwhile, the two Tests could be crucial in their attempt to recover from a difficult start to the current WTC cycle.
With Bangladesh fourth and West Indies eighth, the October-November series promises to be an important battle for WTC points.
