It has been more than 20 days since the incident in Morbi, Gujarat, but even today many people are reaching the spot in search of their near and dear ones. Some are reaching the wreckage of the bridge in search of their little daughter, while some are still reaching the place with their wife, and some are in sorrow for their husband and child. When amarujala.com reached the spot in Morbi, the security personnel present there and the people living in the slum told that every Sunday hundreds of people are reaching here in memory of their loved ones.
Anumod Patel, the security personnel present at the Morbi bridge, says that seeing the debris lying there, tears come to the eyes of the people. He says that last Sunday itself there was such a crowd that additional security forces had to be called. He says that the crowd was not uncontrollable, but people were very emotional and were crying near the wreckage of that bridge. He told that Shambhu Gupta's seven-year-old daughter and his wife from Jagadha village near Morbi died due to drowning. He says that Shambhu's mental condition can be gauged from the fact that he has been coming here continuously for the past several days and weeps bitterly on seeing the debris.
Sunil, who lives in a slum under the bridge, says that he has requested the local municipality to shift the debris to some other place or destroy it. So that people do not get distracted by seeing the broken debris on the bridge. Sunil says that most of the people who come here are those who did not live in this world after the collapse of this bridge. He says that security guards are sitting here for security, but people are still not able to stop their tears after seeing the debris of the collapsed bridge.
On the other side of the Machhu river is the royal palace of the royal family. This hanging bridge of Morbi used to connect the royal palace and the engineering college here. Amrutlal, who belongs to the royal family, says that the bridge was opened on the same day. Some children of his family had also reached the bridge. But seeing the crowd, he came back, but some of his friends remained there. He says that the children of his family still cry throughout the night as to why he did not bring back his two friends.
Local journalist Praveen, who lives in the area, says that the debris of the bridge lying there should be removed. Because people just now go to see the ramp of the bridge, which had collapsed. Hasmukh Mehta, associated with a local human rights organization, says that there is no such house in Morbi, which is not sad at this time. Mehta says that even today people come towards this bridge of the Machchu river in memory of their loved ones.
