Gujarat's 3.10 lakh crore budget: Most allocated to education, health, and social sectors, special focus on tourism as well

The budget session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly started on Thursday. At the same time, today Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the state budget. The budget size for 2023-24 has increased by 18 to 20 percent this time compared to last year. With this, the size of the budget has increased to about 3.01 lakh crores.

 

In the second term of the Bhupendra Patel government, Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the budget for the second consecutive time in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly today. The total budget is Rs 3 lakh 1 thousand 22 crores. In the new budget, the maximum budget has been allocated to the education, health, and social sectors. At the same time, the government has not imposed any new tax burden on the people despite the manifold expenditure in the health sector.

Allocation of 8000 crores to develop 5 tourist places like the Statue of Unity, Sadd Rann, Ambaji, Dharoi Dam, Gir Sanctuary, and Dwarka Shivrajpur Beach.

 

Last year a budget of Rs 2.43 lakh crore was presented. After the end of the GST refund, the state government is now getting huge income from VAT only on petrol and diesel. Stamp duty revenue is also expected to increase significantly in the next financial year with the new jantri rates coming into force from April 15.

 

Tourism will now become a separate department, likely to be announced in the budget

The state government has given a special focus on expanding the scope of the tourism sector in the state. Tourist places like the Statue of Unity, and the White Desert of Kutch have become the center of attraction for international tourists. At the same time, lakhs of migrants visit other pilgrimage centers including Somnath, Dwarka, Ambaji, and Pavagadh throughout the year. Therefore, to promote tourism activities, a separate department for tourism has been announced in the budget. Financial provision will also be increased by allotting a separate institute in the tourism department.
