According to mythological beliefs, it was on the day of Hariyali Teej that Shiva accepted Mother Parvati as his wife after her rigorous penance. That's why this day is celebrated as the union of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. On this day Mother Parvati and Lord Shiva Shankar are worshiped with rituals.

 

On observing this fast by married women, their married life remains happy. Along with this, unmarried girls also observe this fast to get a good groom. Since ancient times, there is special importance of wearing 16 adornments and green clothes on Hariyali Teej, along with this, women also swing on swings on this day.
