The ICC released its latest weekly men's cricket rankings on August 19, with major changes in the Test batting rankings following Bangladesh's historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in the Darwin Test.
England's Harry Brook has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test batting rankings, while Australia's Travis Head slipped from first to fourth after a disappointing performance. Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah continued to hold the No. 1 position among Test bowlers, while Shubman Gill remained the top-ranked ODI batter.
Harry Brook Back at No. 1 in Test Batting Rankings
Travis Head's poor outing in the Darwin Test against Bangladesh affected his ranking significantly. The Australian batter scored only 22 and 17 runs across the two innings, causing him to fall from first to fourth place.
Harry Brook benefited from Head's drop and moved back to the top of the Test batting rankings. England's Joe Root climbed to second, while Australia's Steve Smith moved into third place.
The competition at the top remains extremely close, with only 33 rating points separating the top four Test batters.
Jasprit Bumrah Remains No. 1 Test Bowler
India's Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate the ICC Test bowling rankings. The Indian pacer has held the No. 1 position since November 2024 and has now completed 21 consecutive months at the top.
Bumrah currently has 870 rating points and retained his position despite not featuring in the Galle Test against Sri Lanka.
Bangladesh's Hasan Mahmud was among the biggest movers after an outstanding performance against Australia. After taking nine wickets in the Darwin Test, the pacer jumped 26 places to No. 38.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz also climbed three places to reach No. 24 after taking five wickets in the second innings.
Ravindra Jadeja Continues as Top Test All-Rounder
India's Ravindra Jadeja retained the No. 1 position in the ICC Test all-rounder rankings. Jadeja first reached the top spot on May 9, 2022.
South Africa's Marco Jansen is second with 344 rating points, followed by Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan Miraz with 320 points.
Australia's Mitchell Starc dropped one place to fourth with 270 rating points.
Shubman Gill Remains No. 1 ODI Batter
India captain Shubman Gill continues to lead the ICC ODI batting rankings with 801 rating points.
New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell is second with 794 points, while India's Virat Kohli occupies third place with 767 points. Rohit Sharma remains fourth with 758 rating points.
Afghanistan's Sediqullah Atal was one of the biggest gainers, climbing 37 places to No. 33 after scoring 313 runs in the series.
Ireland's Curtis Campher also made significant progress, moving up 23 places to 36th, while Andrew Balbirnie climbed five places to share 47th position.
Rashid Khan Retains No. 1 ODI Bowling Ranking
Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan remains the world's No. 1 ODI bowler after taking 12 wickets in five matches against Ireland.
His Afghanistan teammate Azmatullah Omarzai also made a major move, climbing nine places to reach No. 19 after taking eight wickets.
How ICC Player Rating Points Work
ICC rankings are based on player performances and are updated after matches. A batter's ranking is influenced not only by the number of runs scored but also by factors such as the quality of the opposition, match conditions and the situation in which the runs were scored.
Similarly, bowlers are assessed on factors including wickets, opposition quality and match conditions. As a result, a strong innings or match-winning bowling performance can lead to a substantial movement in the rankings.
The latest rankings highlight how quickly the ICC table can change. Harry Brook's return to No. 1 and Travis Head's slide to fourth demonstrate the impact a single Test can have on the world's leading batters.
