But this year, up to 2 feet of snow has accumulated on houses and roads. Due to this many vehicles got stuck. The electricity of about 20 thousand houses has also failed.

An official of the Japan Disaster Management Agency said – 11 people died in the snowfall for a week till December 24, but the snowfall intensified on Christmas and 7 people lost their lives. A total of 17 people have died so far. Many of these people fell from the roof while clearing snow. A 70-year-old woman was killed when snow accumulated on the roof of her house and fell on her in Nagai city.

Train and flights canceled

Northeast Japan is receiving three times more snowfall than average. Flights to and from Tokyo have been canceled. Snow has accumulated on the tracks. Due to this many trains have also been canceled. Jam up to 20 km is being seen on the roads due to frozen snow.

Appeal to people to stay in homes

Weather officials in Japan have urged people to use caution when clearing snow and not to work alone. Here, the city of Niigata is known for its rice cultivation. Some people who make Japanese rice cake 'mochi' there said - it is sold more during the New Year. But due to snowfall, the roads are closed due to which we are not able to deliver to the people.
