
Stone-pelting occurred during a Shivaji Jayanti procession in Bagalkot, Karnataka. Following the tension, the administration imposed a curfew in the area. Officials stated that a brief tension arose following alleged stone-pelting during the Shivaji Jayanti procession. They stated that the incident occurred in the old city on Thursday when the procession, which began around 3:30 p.m., was passing through the mosque area.
SP confirmed the stone-pelting incident
In the incident, Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal stated that adequate forces were deployed for the procession. He said, "We were all present at the scene. The procession began around 3:30 p.m. yesterday. As it approached the mosque, two stones were thrown at us from a distance." According to the SP, based on preliminary information and videos received by the police, one stone hit a policeman, while the other landed on his shoulder. He added, "No one was seriously injured. The procession continued smoothly thereafter, and the atmosphere remained peaceful."
CCTV footage continues to be reviewed for the incident.
Police stated that adequate security arrangements were made in view of the procession, and the situation remained under control. They added, "CCTV cameras are installed at the scene. We also recorded the procession. We are reviewing the video footage. Strict action will be taken against those involved."
Prohibitory Orders Imposed in Several Parts of Bagalkot
Meanwhile, a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code has been imposed in parts of Bagalkot from midnight of February 19th to 7 a.m. on February 24th. According to officials, these restrictions prohibit gatherings of more than four people in public places. Carrying dangerous weapons, engaging in activities that endanger public safety, and holding meetings, events, or protests without prior permission are also prohibited. Measures were taken to maintain law and order in the affected areas.
There have also been reports of clashes between people of two religions in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana. According to reports, two groups of people shouted slogans against each other during the procession. The situation is currently under control in both locations.
