Heroin worth 125 crores recovered in Mumbai: Groundnut was brought from Iran in a consignment of oil, DRI raided the port and caught

Amidst the ongoing cruise drugs party case in Mumbai, the team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has raided the Mumbai port. 25 kg heroin has been recovered from a container here. Its price in the international market is said to be around Rs 125 crore. So far one person has been arrested in this case.

Mumbai unit of DRI has arrested 62-year-old businessman Jayesh Shanghvi of Navi Mumbai after raiding the port. Shanghvi is alleged to have brought heroin from Iran to Mumbai by hiding it in a consignment of groundnut oil. A DRI official said that based on intelligence inputs, a container from Iran was nabbed in Navi Mumbai's Nhava Sheva and heroin was found in its search.

The container orderer was also cheated

The DRI official said that the container was imported by Sandeep Thakkar of Vaibhav Enterprises, which has an office in Masjid Bunder. The DRI team has also questioned him. Thakkar told the DRI that Sanghvi had offered him Rs 10,000 per consignment to import goods from Iran at his firm's IEC. He had been doing business with Sanghvi for 15 years, so he trusted him.

The accused is in the custody of DRI

The DRI has arrested Shanghvi and registered a case against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). He was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday. The court has sent him to DRI custody till October 11. After the arrest of Shanghvi, now the DRI team is also searching for some other containers present at Mumbai Port since this morning.

The possibility of being a big syndicate

The DRI has claimed in the court that Sanghvi is part of a syndicate and Sanghvi needs to be questioned to know the details of all the people involved. The DRI suspects that such consignments may have been smuggled in the past as well. Earlier in July, the DRI had seized 293 kg of heroin from the Mumbai port and arrested Prabhjit Singh, owner of Sandhu Exports Punjab.
