More risky in densely populated countries: WHO
Dr. Michael Ryan, executive director of the WHO's Health Disaster Program, said on Friday that corona cases in India are doubling in three weeks, but cases are steadily increasing. Not only India but also Bangladesh, Pakistan and the densely populated countries of South Asia, the epidemic situation is not yet explosive, but there is a risk of this happening. Ryan warned that if the infection starts at the community level it will spread much faster.
Ryan said that the movement of people in India has started again, in which case the risk of increasing infection remains. There are also issues such as high number of migrants, congestion in urban areas and many people having no other option but to go to work every day.
'Important to keep an eye on the speed of doubling the case'
WHO Chief Scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan said that the number of cases of corona in India are not very much according to the population of 130 crores. But it is important to keep an eye on the rate of increase in infection and the rate of doubling of cases.
'Ayushman Bharat Scheme will help'
The WHO has praised the plan saying that it will help in tackling the corona if implemented quickly. WHO DG Dr Tedros Gabriess said that many countries face a serious challenge, but it will also have to find opportunities. For India, this could be an opportunity to increase the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
