Indian badminton players delivered an impressive performance at the Hylo Open 2026 Super 500 tournament in Saarbrücken, Germany, with PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Unnati Hooda and Anmol Kharb advancing to the quarter-finals.
While Sindhu registered a dominant straight-games victory and Lakshya Sen won a hard-fought all-Indian contest against Kiran George, young shuttlers Anmol and Unnati also secured their places in the last eight. However, Malvika Bansod and Isharani Baruah suffered defeats and exited the tournament.
The results give India four representatives in the singles quarter-finals, including an exciting all-Indian women's singles clash between Anmol Kharb and Unnati Hooda.
PV Sindhu Beats Rosy Oktavia Pancasari in 26 Minutes
Two-time Olympic medallist and second seed PV Sindhu produced a commanding performance in the women's singles second round. She defeated France's Rosy Oktavia Pancasari 21-9, 21-6 in just 26 minutes.
Sindhu controlled the match from the beginning and won 42 of the 57 points contested. Her opponent managed to collect only 15 points across the two games.
After defeating Prakriti Bharath in the opening round, Sindhu continued her strong run in Germany. She will now face Denmark's Amalie Schulz in the quarter-finals.
Lakshya Sen Defeats Kiran George in Three Games
India's leading men's singles player Lakshya Sen also booked his place in the quarter-finals after defeating compatriot Kiran George.
Lakshya won the opening game 21-15, but George fought back to take the second game 21-18. In the deciding game, Lakshya regained control and secured a 21-12 victory.
The 54-minute contest ended with Lakshya progressing to the last eight. He is scheduled to face Finland's Kalle Koljonen in the quarter-finals.
Anmol Kharb Stuns Third Seed Line Christophersen
One of the biggest results for India came from Anmol Kharb, who defeated Denmark's third-seeded Line Christophersen in a thrilling three-game match.
Anmol lost the opening game 11-21, but responded strongly to win the second 21-18. The deciding game was closely contested, with the Indian shuttler eventually securing a 25-23 victory.
The comeback win sent Anmol into the quarter-finals, where she will face fellow Indian Unnati Hooda.
Unnati Hooda Also Advances to the Quarter-Finals
Sixth seed Unnati Hooda continued her impressive campaign by defeating Denmark's Frederikke Østergaard in straight games.
Unnati won the match 21-11, 21-19, securing her place in the last eight. Her victory sets up an all-Indian quarter-final against Anmol Kharb, guaranteeing India a representative in the women's singles semi-finals.
Malvika Bansod and Isharani Baruah Eliminated
It was a disappointing day for Malvika Bansod and Isharani Baruah, who both exited the women's singles competition after straight-games defeats.
Malvika lost to Canada's Wen Yu Zhang 11-21, 17-21 in a 31-minute match. Although she improved her performance in the second game, she could not force a decider.
Isharani Baruah went down 14-21, 19-21 against Denmark's eighth-seeded Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt. The Indian put up a stronger fight in the second game, but the Danish player held on to win in 39 minutes.
Hylo Open 2026: India's Quarter-Final Schedule

The key fixtures include:
PV Sindhu vs Amalie Schulz – Women's singles
Anmol Kharb vs Unnati Hooda – Women's singles

Four Indian Shuttlers Keep Hopes Alive at Hylo Open
The Hylo Open 2026 has turned into a promising tournament for India's singles contingent. Sindhu and Lakshya progressed with important victories, while Anmol's comeback against the third seed and Unnati's straight-games win added to India's strong showing.
With four Indian players in the quarter-finals, the country has a strong opportunity to make further progress in the Super 500 tournament. Attention will now turn to the next round, especially the all-Indian clash between Anmol Kharb and Unnati Hooda.
