The decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board on Wednesday to host India's T20 World Cup is scheduled to be postponed as the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) will seek a month to take a final decision on it. It was previously decided that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly himself would be present at the meeting but now it is learned that he will participate in it online and on Wednesday to discuss with the Emirates Cricket Board about the Indian Premier League (IPL) event. Will leave for UAE.
BCCI does not want to lose the T20 World Cup
No concrete outcome is expected in the meeting and after July 1, the BCCI will convene another Special General Meeting (SGM). The ICC is expected to make a formal announcement of its final decision during the annual conference that begins on 18 July. The remaining matches of the IPL will be held in the UAE from September 15 to October 15, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India does not want to miss the T20 World Cup, for which the UAE is an alternate venue.
BCCI sources told the news agency PTI on the condition of confidentiality, 'Covid-19 cases have come down but are not yet in which we can commit to hosting the World Cup. Ganguly and Secretary Jai Shah have sought a month to decide. '
BCCI President Ganguly will take permission from the government
He said, 'He will get advice from the government as to whether hosting in India would be right or not. If the BCCI succeeds in hosting it in October-November, it can be held at three venues in Mumbai instead of nine. Another issue that the BCCI is facing is the exemption granted to the ICC for global competitions. It is learned that the BCCI is in discussion with the top officials of the government but an easy solution is not possible.
FTP will also be discussed
Apart from this, the Future Tour Program (FTP) for eight years from 2023 to 2031 will also be discussed. It also includes major ICC competitions in addition to bilateral series. There will also be a discussion about the World Test Championship as some series were not held in its initial championship due to the epidemic. The ICC will also discuss the strategy for the global development of the sport with special emphasis on women's cricket. The ICC wants to spread the game evenly across 104 countries.
