Shocking facts have come to light about the Zika virus that surfaced in Kerala during the second wave of Corona. The first report of the Zika virus spread in Kerala has been released by ICMR-NIV, Pune. The report states that no travel history was found for Zika virus cases found in Kerala last year. Even within the last month, no travel history was revealed and the family members also did not have symptoms. Therefore, it is believed that there may have been a community spread of the Zika virus.

Zika virus was found in a pregnant woman

The first case of the Zika virus was reported in Kerala on 8 July 2021. Here the virus was confirmed in a pregnant woman at 24 years. During the investigation, the woman had symptoms like fever, headache, red rash on the body, after which she was admitted to the hospital.

ICMR issued a warning

A warning has been issued by the Indian Council of Medical Research regarding the Zika virus. A study conducted at ICMR's National Institute of Virology has revealed that strict monitoring is needed to prevent the Zika virus. There have been signs of community spread of this Zika virus spread in Kerala. In such a situation, the study has revealed that there is a need for rigorous human and entomological monitoring of the Zika virus in other parts of the country. The report said cases of the Zika virus were reported during the second wave of COVID-19 and caused an additional burden on the public health system.

Kerala best in the serosurvey

According to the ICMR report, Kerala was the best in serosurvey. Here 11.6 percent serosurvey was done as compared to the national average of 21.9 percent. The preparedness and proactive surveillance of Kerala's public health system have helped the state in timely identification of Zika cases among healthcare workers, ICMR says.
