India vs England: Thanks to the fifth double century of the career of captain Joe Root (unbeaten 209), England have scored 454 for four in their first innings till the second day of the first Test match with hosts India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. . He completed his double century by hitting a six off Ashwin. Root has become the first English cricketer to complete his double century by hitting a six. Root, who has read the wicket well, completed his 150 runs off 260 balls. This is Root's third-best score in a Test in India. Stokes also played Root well, playing responsibly. India had a chance to run out Stokes off Ashwin in the 112th over, but Washington Sundar's throw was far away.

Stokes completed his 23rd half-century before lunch. He completed his half-century off 76 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes. Apart from them, Rory Burns 33, Dominique Sibley 87, while Daniel Lawrence was out without opening the account.
