IND Vs ENG 1st Test Day 2 Tea: England's position is very strong due to Root's double century, Team India on backfoot

India vs England: Thanks to the fifth double century of the career of captain Joe Root (unbeaten 209), England have scored 454 for four in their first innings till the second day of the first Test match with hosts India at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. . At the time of tea, Root has hit 19 fours and two sixes in 353 balls while Oli Pope is unbeaten on 24 runs with the help of two fours in 73 balls. So far, 67 runs have been shared between the two batsmen for the fifth wicket. England scored 99 runs on the second day losing one wicket in the second session. From India, Bumrah has got two more Ashwin and Nadeem one wicket each.

 

 

After lunch, England started playing ahead of 355 for three wickets. Root put his innings ahead by 156 and Ben Stokes by 63 runs. Root and Stokes shared a 124-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Nadeem broke this growing partnership by getting Stokes caught by Cheteshwar Pujara. Stokes added 19 runs in his innings and was dismissed as the fourth batsman on the team's score of 387. Stokes scored 82 runs off 118 balls with the help of 10 fours and two sixes.

Oli Pope, who came to bat after Stokes was dismissed, did not allow England to suffer any more blows to the tee. Root completed his double century before tea. He completed his double century by hitting a six off Ashwin. Root has become the first English cricketer to complete his double century by hitting a six. This is Root's third double out of home and his second double century in the last three Tests.

 

 

Earlier, England started playing ahead of their yesterday's score by 263 runs for three wickets. Root extended his innings by 128 runs. Stokes landed on the field as a new batsman. Both batsmen continued to play England scorelessly and did not let the visiting team get any shock till lunch.

 

 

Root, who has read the wicket well, completed his 150 runs off 260 balls. This is Root's third-best score in a Test in India. Stokes also played Root well, playing responsibly. India had a chance to run out Stokes off Ashwin in the 112th over, but Washington Sundar's throw was far away.

 

 

Stokes completed his 23rd half-century before lunch. He completed his half-century off 76 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes. Apart from them, Rory Burns 33, Dominique Sibley 87, while Daniel Lawrence was out without opening the account.
