Ind vs SA: Team India practice session, Umran Malik and Arshdeep sweat profusely

Posted on 7th Jun 2022 10:40 am by rohit kumar

Fast bowler Umran Malik, who made it to the Indian team for the T20I series against South Africa after performing well in IPL 2022, looked a bit lost from Arshdeep Singh in the team's first practice session, while Arshdeep's yorker talent impressed.

However, Arshdeep and Umran may have to wait for their turn as Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan are also in the squad. If seen between these two players, Arshdeep looks better than Umran. The Indian team practiced with coaches Rahul Dravid and Paras Mhambrey in the evening. During practice, Umran bowled the fast for which he is known, while Rishabh Pant left no stone unturned to get past him.

Young Arshdeep, on the other hand, first made short spells and then practiced yorker bowling under bowling coach Mhambrey. Mhambrey put gloves on the crease in front of the middle wicket and a bottle in front of the wide line and Arshdeep had to target both of them on separate balls.

Arshdeep was asking the coach after bowling, 'Okay?' To which Mhambrey advised him to focus on the length rather than the direction of the ball. Generally, fast bowlers do not practice for long in summer conditions but Arshdeep and Umran practiced for longer. At the same time, the Indian fast bowling will be led by Bhuvneshwar, who bowled for hardly 15 minutes in the series. Harshal Patel, Hardik Pandya, and Yuzvendra Singh Chahal took a rest during the team session.

Usually, bowlers who bowl more before the match do not get a chance in the team. Dinesh Karthik, 36, who returned to the team, practiced lap scoop and reverse scoop shots with throwdown experts. However, in the presence of the team's vice-captain Pant, he will find it difficult to get a chance in the playing XI. DDCA groundsmen said that there would be dew in the ground after 8 pm but the Indian team did not practice with the wet ball.
