
The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) has taken a major step amid the controversy over objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Maldivian ministers. The ICC has urged tourism and trade associations to stop promoting the Maldives. Trade body president Subhash Goyal has stated all trade associations.
The ICC Secretary said in his statement, 'India is one of the largest sources of foreign exchange and trade. Please invest in Lakshadweep, Andaman, and Nicobar as it is much better than Maldives. Other places in the Indian Ocean region that can be promoted are Sri Lanka, Bali, Mauritius, and Phuket.'

Subhash Goyal has appealed to all carriers operating in Maldives to suspend their operations. Along with this, he has also appealed to consider operating in Lakshadweep under the UDAN scheme.
Subhash Goyal said in his statement, 'I appeal to the members of FHRAI and Hotel Association of India to seriously consider investing in islands like Lakshadweep as in future it will give you better returns on your investment than Maldives. '
Let us tell you that amid the controversy over objectionable comments against PM Modi, online travel company EasyMyTrip has suspended all flight bookings for Maldives. On Monday, MakeMyTrip claimed that there was a 3400 percent increase in on-platform searches after PM Modi's visit to Lakshadweep.
Regarding the India-Maldives dispute, Madhav Ojha, director of Blue Star Travel Services, said, 'Relations between India and Maldives have improved in the last few years. There are eight direct flights from India to Maldives. Every day 1,200-1,300 travelers leave for Maldives. Right now there is a possibility of 20 to 30 percent cancellation.
