The Indian football team was defeated by Qatar's top class in the second round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers. In the match played at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Qatar tasted a one-sided 3-0 defeat to the Sunil Chhetri-led Indian team. Indian players tried their best to score goals, but they could not penetrate Qatar's defense.

Qatar's spectacular victory

The beginning of the match was very strong for Qatar. In the fourth minute of the match, Mustafa Meshal made an excellent shot and sent the ball into the goalpost. Qatar's team was successful in maintaining this lead in the first half. The Indian team adopted a very attacking approach, but could not penetrate Qatar's defense.

As soon as the second half started, another goal came from Qatar. This goal for the team was scored by Moez Ali in the 46th minute. Sunil Chhetri's team looked completely on the back foot in front of Qatar's excellent play. In the 86th minute of the match, Yousuf Abdsirag scored the third goal of the match for Qatar, penetrating India's defense. This goal of Yousuf sealed Qatar's victory. Despite millions of efforts, Indian players could not score a single goal in the match.

India started with a victory

However, India started the tournament with an emphatic win. The team defeated Kuwait in its first match. This was the reason why everyone expected a strong performance from the Indian team against Qatar. Qatar had defeated Afghanistan 8-1 in their last match. Qatar continued its excellent form against India. India's defense looked very weak against Qatar, due to which the team had to suffer the consequences.
