President Draupadi Murmu has approved the new flag of the Indian Navy and the new design of the Indian Navy Crest, which was unveiled on Navy Day in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (04 December 2022). The government took this step to get rid of things related to the colonial era and the Indian Navy Crest has been changed to a new design in line with the national effort. Along with this, the flag of the Navy has been given a new look.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi included INS Vikrant in the Indian Navy fleet on 2 September 2022. Along with this, the new ensign of the Navy was unveiled and got rid of the symbol of the colonial era. In the new flag of the Navy, the St. George's Cross has been removed. The new ensign has been redesigned with a blue octagon with twin borders and red horizontal and vertical lines on a white background. At the same time, the national flag has been kept unchanged in the upper left side of the new ensign.

The earlier design was adopted on 6 September 2017

The predecessor design of the President's Standard and Colors for the Indian Navy was adopted on 6 September 2017. The center consisted of horizontal and vertical red bands with the national emblem at their intersection. The national flag was in the upper left canton and a golden elephant was in the lower right canton on the fly side. The design was inspired by the then Naval Ensign. Let me tell you, after the year 1950, the symbol of the Indian Navy has been changed four times till now. On 26 January 1950, on the occasion of the first Republic Day, the Navy's flag was changed to suit that of India.
