India's Digital Might Showcased in Indonesia, Malaysia

Kolkata, March 3 (IANS) India's digital might and the country's advances in the computing sector are being showcased in Indonesia and Malaysia, courtesy a travelling exhibition curated by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).

As a part of the 'Festival of India' celebrations in Indonesia and Malaysia, two travelling exhibitions - 'Life on the Silver Screen: The Fascinating Story of Indian Cinema' and 'The Rise of Digital India' - were inaugurated in Jakarta, Indonesia, on February 28, a NCSM statement said on Tuesday.

After Indonesia, the exhibition will be showcased in various cities of Malaysia such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Malacca from April 18 to June 30.

'The Rise of Digital India' show tells the story of the evolution in the computing and digital technologies in India through 70 exhibits.

"It showcases the phenomenal rise of computing sector in India and use of computing and application, digital technologies in India after independence, touching the lives of millions of Indians in areas such as agriculture, power generation, weather forecasting, e-commerce, atomic energy, space, communication, e-governance etc," said NCSM Director General G.S. Rautella.

The displays have been grouped into sections such as 'India: A culture of information', 'First Steps into modernity', 'Maturing of an information civilization', 'Impacts on the society' and 'IT and Space Science partners in development'.

Visuals and graphics, film clippings, artefacts/replicas and interactive multimedia have been effectively used in the exhibition, said the release.

This is the maiden 'Festival of India' event in the two south east Asian nations.

Apart from digital technology, the other part of the travelling exhibition highlights a century of Indian cinema and its impact on society and culture.
