Meta-owned Instagram is rapidly expanding its disappearing photo-sharing features with the launch of “Instants,” a new tool designed for fast and spontaneous image sharing inside direct messages. Inspired by the instant-sharing style popularized by Snapchat, the feature allows users to send live photos directly from their inbox without editing or previewing them first.
While the feature is becoming increasingly popular among Gen Z and young social media users, many people are also accidentally sending personal photos because the image is shared immediately after tapping the shutter button.

What Is Instagram Instants?
Instagram Instants is a disappearing photo-sharing feature integrated into Instagram Direct Messages.
Users can access it by tapping the small photo-stack icon inside the DM inbox. Once opened, the camera launches instantly, allowing users to capture and send live photos directly to friends or Close Friends.
Unlike Instagram Stories:
You cannot upload old gallery photos
There is no editing option

How to Undo an Instagram Instant

Method 1: Tap the “Undo” Button Immediately
Right after sending the photo:
Look below the shutter button
Tap the “Undo” option instantly
Important:
The Undo button remains visible only for a few seconds. If you wait too long, the image may already be delivered.
Method 2: Delete the Instant From Archive
Instagram also stores recently sent Instants temporarily inside the archive section.
To access it:
Open the Instants camera screen
Tap the four-box archive icon
Locate the recently sent Instant
Delete it before the recipient opens it
However, if the recipient has already viewed the photo, complete removal may no longer be possible.
