When Samson came to bat in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, Rajasthan Royals' score was two wickets for 33 runs. In-form Jos Buttler also continued on the same score. The first ball that Samson played, went for four runs in the direction of the point at the speed of the bullet. After this, on the third ball, he hit Vanindu Hasaranga for six runs over extra cover.
His score was 24 runs in 12 balls after hitting two consecutive sixes on Shahbaz Ahmed. He then played nine balls, slowing down his innings and scoring three runs. Then a googly ball from Hasranga became clean bowled in the process of doing a reverse sweep. It was then that a few balls earlier, he was badly beaten in the process of reverse sweeping Hasranga.
Bishop said, "It was a good opportunity for Samson. He could have taken his team to a big score after Jos Buttler was dismissed. He was also in form. He hasn't played Hasaranga well before. So he should have taken care of it. I am a fan of Sanju Samson, but he disappoints with his shot selection."
It is noteworthy that Hasaranga has dismissed Samson five times in six T20 innings. Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori also seemed to agree with Bishop. He said that sometimes Samson wants to do things very quickly. Vettori said, "He is the kind of player that anyone would want to have in their team. He is a match-winner and can target any bowler. Despite this, he has not played much international cricket yet."
Vettori added, "When he plays, it seems how easy it is to bat. He is always trying to do new things. Every shot is in his book. When he hits the shot over the bowler's head So he looks the best. It's eye-pleasing to watch him play. But when he gets out early even after a good start, it's frustrating. When you score 30 runs in 18 or 20 balls, being an experienced player As you, you need to make this innings bigger."
He said that Samson should have shown some respect for the bowler even given the old record and Hasranga's form, but he appeared in a hurry. However, apart from Bishop, Vettori believes that if Samson takes his team to the IPL final, then it will be easy for him to return to Team India.
