The mega auction of players for IPL 2025 is over. As expected, this time all the previous records were broken in the auction and Rishabh Pant created history. Pant became the most expensive player sold in IPL auction history. While some players got more than expected, some players fell from the sky to the ground. These include New Zealand batsman Daryl Mitchell and West Indies' Alzari Joseph.

182 players sold in mega auction

A total of 577 players were selected for the mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday and Monday, out of which a total of 182 players were sold. 10 franchises had a chance to fill 204 places. No one bid for a total of 395 players. All 10 franchises together spent Rs 639.15 crore in this auction.

Pant-Shreyas and Venkatesh's brilliance was seen.

Pant was the most expensive player to be sold on the first day of the mega auction, who was bought by Lucknow Supergiants for Rs 27 crore. Apart from Pant, Shreyas Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore and Venkatesh Iyer was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 23.75 crore. Indian fast bowlers dominated the second day, with big bids for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, and Mukesh Kumar. RCB bought Bhuvneshwar for Rs 10.75 crore, Mumbai Indians bought Deepak Chahar for Rs 9.25 crore and Mukesh Kumar was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 8 crore. This time 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi also entered the auction, whose base price was Rs 30 lakh. Vaibhav was bought by Rajasthan Royals in the auction for Rs 1.10 crore and he became the youngest player to be sold in the IPL auction.

Mitchell and Alzari did not find a buyer.

Daryl Mitchell and Alzari did not find any buyer. Both these players were sold for crores in the mini auction for IPL 2024, but this time no one bid for both of them. Mitchell was last bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 14 crore. He has been New Zealand's best-performing player in all formats in recent times. Mitchell entered the auction this time with a base price of Rs 2 crore, but no one bought him both times and he remained unsold. Playing for CSK in IPL 2024, Daryl scored 318 runs in 13 matches at an average of 28.91 and a strike rate of 142.60. During this, he also scored two half-centuries.

On the other hand, West Indies fast bowler Alzari Joseph, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2024, also entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, but no franchise showed interest in taking him. Alzari was bought by RCB for Rs 11.5 crore in the mini auction last year, but this time he also did not find any buyer. Before RCB, Alzari played for Gujarat Titans in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. In 2022, he took seven wickets in nine matches and played a role in Gujarat winning the title. Playing for RCB in 2024, he got a chance in three matches, but he could take only one wicket.

The price of some players decreased.

While some players did not find buyers, there were some whose prices decreased compared to last time. Spencer Johnson, Sameer Rizvi, Rovman Powell, and Kumar Kushagra are among the players who found buyers but could not increase the price. Spencer was sold for Rs 10 crore last time, but this time Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought him for Rs 2.60 crore. On the other hand, Chennai had bought Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.40 crore last time, but Delhi Capitals bought him for Rs 95 lakh. Powell was sold for Rs 7.40 crore last time, but this time KKR included him in the team for Rs 1.50 crore only. Similarly, Kumar Kushagra, who was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 7.20 crore last time, went to Gujarat Titans for Rs 65 lakh this time.
