According to news agency Reuters, the New York Times, NBC News and other US media reported the assessment of the attack by US intelligence on Tuesday, citing a briefing with journalists. The American official refused to disclose the name as the information remains confidential. Officials said there was still uncertainty over the death toll and the number of injured, The New York Times reported. According to the report, officials said that the hospital suffered little damage and the structure of the hospital did not collapse.

 

American intelligence officials assessed the attack

Officials told the newspaper that the intelligence assessment of the attack was based on Israeli intercepts of Palestinian groups, publicly available videos, communications intercepts provided by Israel, and images of the explosion's aftermath.

 

Israel held Palestinians responsible

Hamas-run Gaza's health ministry said the October 17 blast at al-Ahli hospital killed 471 people. Palestinians and Arab states said the Israeli airstrike targeted the hospital. Israel said the blast was caused by a failed rocket launch by the Palestinian militant Islamic Jihad group and denied responsibility.
