Israeli Palestinian Violence: Israeli-Palestinian violence continues unabated. Meanwhile, Palestinian media reported that Israeli troops shot dead two Palestinians during a military raid in the occupied West Bank early Thursday.
Official news agency Wafa identified the dead as 58-year-old Jawad Bavatka and Adham Jabrin. He was shot in the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank.
Palestinian media said Bavatka was a teacher, while the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades – an armed militia affiliated with Fatah, the secular political party that controls the Palestinian Authority – claimed Jabrin was a fighter. The Israeli army said it had no immediate comment.
Palestinian media also reported that Israeli forces arrested a local official of the militant group Islamic Jihad in Jenin.
Tension has risen in the West Bank after a wave of Palestinian attacks against Israelis that killed 19 people. The Israeli army has been carrying out raids since last spring.
Another 10 Israelis were killed in a second string of attacks late last year. Israel says the raids are aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and thwarting future attacks.
Thursday's deaths bring the number of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank to 17 since the beginning of 2023.
