US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sharman and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla held a bilateral meeting at Hyderabad House in Delhi. Wendy Sharman arrived in Delhi on Tuesday on a three-day visit to India. He discussed bilateral, regional, and global issues with Shringla on Wednesday. "India and the US know that the best way to maintain peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world is to maintain and strengthen the rules-based international order," Sharman said. Further speaking on the pandemic, he said, 'As the world's largest vaccine producer, India is a key leader in the fight against COVID. We look forward to working closely with India to vaccinate the world through the Quad Vaccine Partnership.

 

The Ministry of External Affairs had said that the two sides will exchange views on regional issues related to South Asia, the Indo-Pacific region, and contemporary global issues. "Wendy Sharman will be visiting India from October 5-7," the State Department said in a statement. She will meet the Foreign Secretary on Wednesday. During this, the India-US bilateral agenda and the outcome of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent visit to the US will be reviewed.

 

The ministry said Sharman and the foreign secretary will participate in a special session of the India Thoughts Summit to be held on Wednesday by the US-India Business Council. Sharman is also scheduled to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

 

US Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sharman arrived in New Delhi (India) on Tuesday (October 5) for her two-day visit to review India-US bilateral relations as well as discuss regional and global issues. Sharman will be in Mumbai on 7 October and will leave for Pakistan after a 5-7 October visit to India.

 

The US Deputy Secretary of State will also meet India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Sharman will also participate in a special session of the India-Thoughts Summit organized by the US India Business Council (USIBC). The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) gave this information in a statement.

 

In his meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, US diplomats will hold regular talks and explore ways to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. In Mumbai, Sharman will meet with business and civil society partners after attending civil society events and the India Ideas Summit in Delhi organized by the US India Business Council (USIBC). MEA gave information in a release. Sharman's visit comes ahead of the first 2+2 summit between India and the US under the Biden administration, scheduled for November 2021.

 

Before arriving in Delhi, Sherman visited Switzerland and Uzbekistan, where he met the Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov and an inter-agency delegation in Tashkent. The Deputy Secretary congratulated Foreign Minister Kamilov and the Uzbek people on the 30th year of Uzbekistan's independence and thanked them for the constructive participation of Uzbekistan in Afghanistan.

 

At the same time, according to Pakistan's The Nation newspaper, Sherman's visit from October 7 will be one of the first high-level official visits to Islamabad after the official visit of CIA chief Bill Burns on September 9 and Joe Biden becoming president. Sherman is expected to hold a meeting with a senior Islamabad official. Sherman's visit comes on the sidelines of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Mahmood Shah Qureshi on the sidelines of the 76th UNGA.
