Congress chief whip in Rajya Sabha Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday gave a notice of breach of privilege against Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah is accused of making allegations against Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi during his response to a bill in the Upper House.
Jairam Ramesh said this.
In a notice given to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Ramesh said that on March 25, Shah, in response to the debate on the Disaster Management Bill, 2024, had said that the PM Relief Fund was created during the Congress rule and the PM Care Fund was set up during Narendra Modi's tenure.
He said- "I hereby give notice of a question of privilege under Rule 188 against Shah, who made allegations against Rajya Sabha member and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Smt. Sonia Gandhi."
Amit Shah spoke about Sonia Gandhi.
Ramesh said that Shah had said that during the rule of the Congress, only one family had control and the Congress president was part of that family. He also said that on studying Shah's statement, it is clear that though the Home Minister did not take Sonia Gandhi's name, he indirectly referred to her.
Derogatory reference made
Ramesh said- "It is established that making derogatory reference to any member of the House is a breach of privilege." He said that the Home Minister has made allegations without any basis, which is aimed at damaging the reputation of Sonia Gandhi.
