Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 have scripted history at the box office with their earnings. The film has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film and continues to achieve record-breaking collections worldwide.
However, alongside its success, the film has also faced criticism. It was labeled as a “propaganda film,” and the movie faced significant backlash on social media. Now, renowned screenwriter Javed Akhtar has offered his reaction to the claims labeling the film as propaganda.
Javed’s Reaction to Dhurandhar Being Called Propaganda
Recently, Javed Akhtar attended an awards ceremony in Kolkata. During the event, he was asked for his opinion regarding Dhurandhar and the allegations that it is a propaganda film. According to the Hindustan Times, Javed Akhtar stated at the event that he actually liked Dhurandhar. He remarked:
Javed Akhtar Defends Dhurandhar
Javed Akhtar came to the defense of the film Dhurandhar. He stated, “Every story takes a certain stance; but does it become ‘propaganda’ simply because the narrative does not sit well with a specific section of the audience? Everyone has the right to propagate their ideas. What exactly is wrong with propaganda films? The duty of every filmmaker is to depict the truth. Even if a film’s story is based on a fairy tale, it inevitably embodies a certain ideology in one form or another.”
Dhurandhar Creates a Box Office Sensation
Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar 2 were released in theaters within a span of four months. While the first film grossed over ₹1,300 crore worldwide, the second installment is on the verge of crossing the ₹2,000 crore mark. The film is poised to break the worldwide box office record currently held by Dangal.
