Reliance Jio has announced a new Jio Prime membership aimed at customers concerned about possible increases in telecom recharge prices. The membership costs ₹300 as a one-time fee and allows eligible customers to lock in the price of their existing Jio plan until September 5, 2027.
Under the scheme, customers can continue recharging eligible plans at their existing prices during the membership period. Importantly, Jio says users will not be tied to a particular recharge plan after joining Prime.
Will Jio's ₹299 Recharge Plan Continue?
Yes. Jio has confirmed that its existing ₹299 plan will continue to be available.
The announcement comes at a time when telecom customers are closely watching changes to prepaid tariffs. Airtel recently revised its prepaid portfolio and removed several plans, including its ₹299 option, making the ₹349 plan its entry-level option in the 28-day daily-data category.
Jio's decision to retain the ₹299 plan, alongside the new price-locking facility, could make the service attractive to customers looking for greater certainty over their mobile expenses.
Can Jio Prime Members Change Their Recharge Plan?
One of the major advantages of Jio Prime is its flexibility.
Customers who purchase the membership are not locked into the plan they initially select. They can move to another eligible Jio plan according to their changing data, calling or validity requirements while retaining the benefits of their Prime membership.
This means the ₹300 payment functions as a membership fee rather than an advance payment for a particular recharge plan.
When Will Jio Prime Launch?
Jio Prime membership will become available from August 20, 2026.
Customers will be able to purchase the membership through:
MyJio app
Jio.com
Jio Stores
Authorised Jio partner stores
The facility is available to existing prepaid and postpaid customers as well as new Jio users. Customers currently using another telecom operator can also become eligible by porting their number to Jio or obtaining a new Jio connection.
What Benefits Does the ₹300 Jio Prime Membership Offer?
Jio Prime is more than a recharge price-locking facility. The company is also offering additional benefits with the membership.
₹600 worth of cashback vouchers: Prime members will receive two vouchers worth ₹300 each.
₹300 JioHome/JioPC voucher: Can be used when taking a new JioHome or JioPC connection.
₹300 new-SIM voucher: Can be used when getting a new Jio SIM for a family member or friend.
In addition, Prime members will receive early access to selected new Jio products and services.
Priority Customer Support for Jio Prime Members
Jio Prime members will also receive access to a dedicated priority customer-support channel.
This adds another layer to the membership, positioning Jio Prime as a broader customer-benefit programme rather than simply another recharge plan.
Is Jio Prime a New Recharge Plan?
No. Jio Prime is a membership service, not a mandatory recharge plan.
Customers pay ₹300 once for the membership and can continue selecting their Jio recharge plans according to their requirements. The key attraction is the ability to protect the current eligible recharge price until September 5, 2027, while retaining the flexibility to switch plans.
Jio Prime ₹300 Plan: What Does It Mean for Users?
Jio's new Prime membership could appeal particularly to customers who want protection against potential future tariff increases. The combination of price protection, continued availability of the ₹299 plan, cashback vouchers, priority support and plan flexibility gives the ₹300 membership several benefits beyond a conventional recharge.
However, customers should check the eligibility and applicable terms for their specific recharge plan before purchasing the membership.
