India Post 221/7 as Abhishek Sharma Unleashes Record Knock
Batting first, India posted 221/7 in 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma provided the explosive start, scoring 108 runs from 34 deliveries with nine fours and 11 sixes.
The opener reached his century in just 30 balls, becoming the fastest Indian batter to score a T20I hundred. He surpassed Rohit Sharma’s previous Indian record of a 35-ball century, scored against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.
Abhishek’s century was also the fastest T20I hundred by a batter from a Full Member nation and the third-fastest overall in T20Is.
Sanju Samson Hits Fifty as India Make Explosive Start
Sanju Samson supported Abhishek with an impressive 50 off 35 balls. The opening pair added 142 runs, giving India a commanding platform.
India also reached 100 runs during the six-over Powerplay, setting a new team record for its highest Powerplay score in men's T20Is.
After Abhishek's dismissal for 108, India lost momentum somewhat but still finished with a formidable 221/7.
Afghanistan Bowled Out for 94
Chasing 222, Afghanistan struggled against India's bowling attack and were dismissed for just 94 in 14.1 overs.
Ibrahim Zadran top-scored with 25, while Azmatullah Omarzai made 17. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravi Bishnoi led India's bowling effort with three wickets each. Axar Patel picked up two, while Jasprit Bumrah and Yash Thakur claimed one wicket apiece.
India therefore completed a comprehensive 127-run victory and swept the three-match T20I series 3-0.
Abhishek Sharma Takes Centre Stage
Abhishek's sensational innings earned him the Player of the Match award and capped a memorable series. His 30-ball hundred not only broke Rohit Sharma's Indian record but also underlined his impact in India's T20I batting line-up.
India now turn their attention to the Asian Games, while Afghanistan will also prepare for the tournament with a largely different squad.
