US-Iran Ceasefire: Uncertainty Persists Over Islamabad Peace Talks; JD Vance Departs for Pakistan, Iran Maintains Silence

Posted on 10th Apr 2026 11:28 am by rohit kumar

In a significant diplomatic effort aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran in West Asia, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance departed for Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on Friday. There, he will lead peace negotiations with Iran. These talks are taking place at a time when the declared temporary ceasefire between the two nations has reached an extremely fragile state. According to media reports, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday.

U.S. President Donald Trump has entrusted Vance with this responsibility; joining him on this mission are Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner. This initiative comes at a juncture when political and economic pressure regarding the conflict is mounting steadily.

The Path to Peace Remains Uncertain

Uncertainty persists even before the commencement of talks in Islamabad. There is also a lack of clarity regarding the arrival of the Iranian delegation. According to some reports, the Iranian delegation’s travel has been delayed due to ongoing military tensions in Lebanon. Although both Pakistan and the United States are striving to ensure the success of this meeting, the situation on the ground remains complex.

Tensions Escalate Despite Ceasefire

Despite the recently declared temporary ceasefire, the situation has failed to stabilize. Deep disagreements have emerged between Iran and the U.S.-Israel-backed factions regarding the terms of the agreement. Iran asserts that the ceasefire must also encompass the ongoing conflict in Lebanon—a claim that the United States and Israel have rejected. Consequently, tensions in the region have flared up once again.

Furthermore, the United States has demanded that Iran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a waterway considered vital for global oil supplies. Iran had previously restricted access to this route in retaliation for Israeli military actions.
