Kolkata, Jan 27 (IANS) India's eastern metropolis Kolkata will become the country's first fully Wi-Fi enabled metro city in the next two or three months, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced here Tuesday.
As a first step, the iconic Park Street will become wi-fi enabled from February, Banerjee said at the inauguration programme of the 39th International Kolkata Book Fair.
"I am delighted to announce that the rest of Kolkata will be made wi-fi enabled in phases over the next three months. Thus Kolkata will become India's first fully wi-fi enabled metro city," she said.
Reliance Jio will provide wi-fi services to people throughout all the municipal wards.
"This will transform Kolkata into a networked society - Smart, Simple & Secure. Kolkata leads the way in digital world," Banerjee later tweeted.
