Gurgaon, Jan 29 (IANS) A 25-year-old man has been arrested here for allegedly killing his 24-year-old live-in partner. He packed the body in a bag to dispose of it, but could not to do so for two days, police said Thursday.
The accused, identified as Chirag, allegedly murdered his live-in partner Anjali alias Anshu as he doubted her character, police said.
The couple belonged to a village in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat district and was living here at a rented accommodation in nearby Badshahpur area.
The families of both were opposed to their marriage.
"Both studied in a school in Uttar Pradesh during 2009 and fell in love with each other. Later, Anshu was married off to some other person in Meerut against her wishes," Gurgaon police officer Ran singh told IANS.
"After a few years of her marriage, Anshu and Chirag came in contact with each other and she eloped with Chirag, leaving her nearly two-year-old son at her in-laws' house," the officer said.
Later, UP police on the complaint of Anshu's family arrested Chirag on charges of kidnapping and raping her, but Anshu in her statement before a district court expressed her desire to live with her lover Chirag.
Both were living in Gurgaon since January 2014 and worked at private companies. At present, Chirag was unemployed.
Reportedly, a spat broke out between them Jan 24, turned violent and Chirag murdered her.
Apparently, Chirag refused to marry her despite several promises, police said.
According to police, he strangulated her Jan 24 night while she was sleeping in the room.
He put the body in a bag to dispose of it, but did not get a chance to take the bag out of the house.
Police arrested him from Badshahpur area Wednesday night from his friend's place.
He was presented Thursday before Judicial Magistrate (1st class) Vinit Arora, who sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
