Manipur Violence: Curfew relaxation extended in Imphal districts, security forces conduct search operation

Manipur Violence: Given the improvement in the law and order situation, the Manipur government has extended the relaxation of the curfew by one hour in Imphal East and West districts. Its information has been given in an official statement. The curfew relaxation period in both the districts of Imphal was now from 5 am to 8 pm.

 

Separate orders issued by the office of the District Magistrates of both districts said there has been considerable improvement in law and order and relaxation of restrictions on movement to facilitate the general public to procure essential commodities including medicines and food items. Needed.

 

 

In other districts of the Valley, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur, the curfew relaxation period remained unchanged from 5 am to 5 pm.

 

A separate press release issued by the Manipur Police Control Room said that the situation in the state is still volatile and tense but under control and security forces have launched search operations in sensitive and border areas of the state.

 

Meanwhile, officials said Kom Union Manipur president Serto Ahao Kom (45) was admitted to the hospital after he was physically assaulted by terrorists near Chingfei village in Churachandpur district late on Tuesday night.

 

Sarto, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Imphal, told reporters that the militants have accused him of having links with Meitei bodies like Arambai Tengol, Meitei Lipun, and Kokomi.

 

Caste clashes broke out in Manipur on May 3 following the organization of the 'Tribal Solidarity March' in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, leading to the loss of over 160 lives and several hundred. were injured.

 

The Meiteis constitute about 53 percent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. The tribals – the Nagas and the Kukis – make up a little over 40 percent and live in the hill districts.
