Measles in Maharashtra: Increasing cases of measles are frightening in Maharashtra, 717 cases so far, and 10 children died in Mumbai

Measles disease is increasing among children in Maharashtra. According to the state health department, 717 cases have been received since the beginning of this year. Of these, 303 cases have been found in Mumbai. So far 10 deaths have also taken place due to this disease in the metropolis.

 

 

Measles is a type of viral infection. This usually occurs only in children. Due to this, 14 deaths have occurred in Maharashtra till 28 November. Five new cases of measles were registered in Mumbai on Tuesday, according to the bulletin by the Mumbai local body. There is also news of one death due to the suspected disease.

 

 

70 cases in Malegaon, 48 in Bhiwandi

Since January this year, 70 cases have been reported in Malegaon in Nashik district and 48 in Bhiwandi near Mumbai. So far this year, 74 cases of measles outbreak have been reported in Mumbai. An outbreak of measles is considered in an area when there are five suspected cases in a week and at least two of them are confirmed by laboratory tests. Since January 2022, 11,390 suspected cases of measles have been found in Mumbai. In Maharashtra, 1337 confirmed cases of measles were found in 2019, 2150 in 2020, and 3668 in 2021.

 

Only one of the 14 dead was vaccinated

Of the 14 people who died of measles this year in Maharashtra, only one was vaccinated. According to the Maharashtra Health Department, the dead include four children aged 0 to 11 months, and eight children aged 12 to 24 months. While two deceased are in the age group of 25 to 60 years. Six of the dead are women.

 

Three died in Bhiwandi and one in Vasai Virar

Of the 10 deaths in Mumbai this year, three occurred in Bhiwandi and one in Vasai-Virar. Vaccination cases have been intensified amid increasing cases. CM Eknath Shinde is constantly reviewing the situation.

 

These are the symptoms of measles

 

 Higher than normal fever.

 Dry cough

 Persistent runny nose.

 Persistent sore throat.

 Swelling of the eyes.

 Bluish-white spots on a red background are found inside the mouth, also known as Koplik spots, on the inner lining of the cheeks.

 A red rash of large, flat spots on the skin that often bleed into one another.
