The wait for Apple's biggest hardware event of the year is almost over. Apple is set to host its “Surprise and shine” event today, September 9, 2026, with the company's new CEO John Ternus leading his first major product keynote. Apple has officially confirmed that the event will begin at 10:00 AM PT, which is 10:30 PM IST in India.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to headline the event. Apple is also widely expected to unveil its first foldable iPhone, which reports have tentatively dubbed the iPhone Ultra. However, the name and specifications have not been officially confirmed by Apple.

Apple Event September 9: When and Where to Watch in India?

Apple's “Surprise and shine” event will be held at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.

For Indian viewers, the event starts at:

Date: September 9, 2026

Time: 10:30 PM IST

Venue: Apple Park, Cupertino

Live stream: Apple.com, Apple TV app and YouTube Live

Apple's official event page confirms the 10:30 PM IST start time for viewers in India.

iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in Focus

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to be the main attractions of the event.

Reports suggest Apple could focus on improvements to the processor, camera system, display and battery, rather than introducing a completely new design.

The two Pro models are widely expected to feature Apple's next-generation A20 Pro chip, reportedly manufactured using a 2nm process. If the reports prove accurate, the new chip could bring improvements in processing performance and power efficiency.

Smaller Dynamic Island Expected

Apple could also make changes to the Dynamic Island.

Reports suggest the Dynamic Island could become smaller on the iPhone 18 Pro models, although it is not expected to disappear completely. A new Dark Cherry colour option has also been widely reported.

Major Camera Upgrade Could Be Coming

Camera improvements could be another major highlight.

One of the most discussed upgrades is a variable-aperture camera system, which could provide greater control over the amount of light entering the lens. This could improve photography in different lighting conditions and offer greater control over depth of field.

Reports suggest the variable-aperture system could be limited to the Pro Max, although the final configuration will only be known after Apple's announcement.

Apple's First Foldable iPhone Could Steal the Show

The biggest surprise of the evening could be Apple's long-rumoured first foldable iPhone.

The device is unofficially being referred to as the iPhone Ultra, but Apple has not confirmed that name.

Reports suggest a book-style design with a display of around 5.5 inches on the outside and approximately 7.8 inches when unfolded. The device is also rumoured to be extremely thin, potentially measuring around 4.5mm when unfolded. These specifications remain unconfirmed.

The foldable iPhone would put Apple directly into competition with premium foldable smartphones from Samsung and other manufacturers. Reuters reports that the device could be positioned as an ultra-premium product with a price above $2,500 in some configurations.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Could Also Arrive

Apple is also expected to refresh its smartwatch lineup.

The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 could be announced alongside the new iPhones. Reports suggest Apple may focus on processor, battery and health-related improvements rather than a major design overhaul.

A ceramic case option for the Series 12 has also been reported.

AirPods 5 May Also Be Announced

The AirPods 5 could also make an appearance at the September event.

Reports suggest the new earbuds could receive an updated chip and additional health-related features. However, Apple's rumoured camera-equipped AirPods are reportedly not expected until a later date.

Why This Apple Event Is Important

This event is significant beyond the new hardware because it marks the first major Apple product keynote under CEO John Ternus.

Apple officially announced that Ternus would succeed Tim Cook as CEO from September 1, 2026, with Cook moving to the role of executive chairman.

The event also comes as Apple seeks to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence, particularly through its next-generation Siri and Apple Intelligence strategy. Reuters reports that the company's AI progress will be an important test for Ternus as he begins his tenure.

For consumers, however, the biggest question may be whether Apple finally enters the foldable smartphone market—and whether its first foldable iPhone can offer something significantly different from established rivals.
