New Delhi, Feb 3 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday hit out at the AAP on the issue of malpractice in donations received by the party.

Addressing an election rally in Rohini in north Delhi, Modi said the Aam Aadmi Party had been till now talking about who was more corrupt -- the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"Now we know the truth. Look at their shamelessness," he said, and questioned AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on accepting support from the Congress for forming the government last year.

"He (Kejriwal) had said 'we (AAP) had not asked for support but they (Congress) gave it to us.

"Similarly, they will say they had not asked for the money but they gave it to us," Modi said.

Asserting that the AAP has betrayed the nation with its actions, Modi said: "The party's defence that they did not ask for donations is untenable."

A group of former AAP volunteers Monday alleged malpractice in donations received by the Kejriwal-led party.

"Our country can forgive mistakes, but not fraudsters," the prime minister said.

Modi said the people of Delhi had elected BJP leaders from all seven Lok Sabha seats in the capital in the 2014 general elections.

"You made me your own. Now it is my responsibility to give back the love showered on me by the people of Delhi.

"I want to assure Delhi people, the love showered by you will be returned by me with interest and with development," he said.

Delhi goes to polls Feb 7 and votes will be counted Feb 10.

Modi also trained his guns at the Congress, saying they ruined 15 years of Delhi. "After this, the temporary party (AAP) ruined Delhi for one year."

The prime minister said the BJP cared for the poor and villagers and will try to ensure that by 2022, all poor people across India will have their own houses.

"We care for the poor and the villagers. And please, do not give me lessons on poverty. I have seen what poverty is from birth," he said.

Claiming that Delhi has become the generator capital of the country, Modi said his party will bring in a "roof-top" policy where the government will buy solar energy from people to tide over power shortage.
