Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that there has been a 21 percent drop in global cases of monkeypox last week. Since last April, more than 45 thousand cases of monkeypox have been found in 98 countries.
A new strain of the virus surfaced in Britain
At the same time, a new strain of monkeypox has been identified in the UK. The health officials of the country have confirmed the new strain. British health officials have said a man has been diagnosed with monkeypox linked to a recent trip to West Africa. Following this, the person has been admitted to the High Outcome Infectious Diseases (HCID) unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, following the Standing Advisory of the Advisory Committee.
Contact tracing continues
Contact tracing of close contacts of the person is underway. So far, no further connected cases have been identified.
