The meeting of the Standing Committee of Nepal Communist Party has been postponed again for a week amid mounting pressure on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign. According to sources present in Kathmandu and New Delhi, the Standing Committee meeting has been postponed due to heavy rains, landslides, and floods in most parts of the country. But Oli is postponing the meeting to save the chair.
NCP chairman Pushp Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda is understood to have been against postponing the meeting till late last night but agreed to it after meeting top party leaders Madhav Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal. The meeting has been postponed at a time when the Oli government has banned Indian news channels, once again provoking anti-India sentiments. The Oli government has indirectly accused the Indian government of preparing video clips against them and banned Indian channels against it.
A Nepal affairs expert said, "The easiest way to save politics in Nepal these days is to accuse the Indian government of everything." Everyone knows that there is no interference from the government in private channels, but it is a very easy way for Oli, which reduces the pressure on them. ''
On one hand, Nepal is making fabricated allegations against India, but not a word is being spoken against Chinese Ambassador Howie Yankee who is interfering in Nepal's domestic politics. The ambassadors are trying to unite the leaders of the Communist Party of Nepal based on the target given by Beijing. In the same sequence, he met NCP Chairman Prachanda on Thursday. It is believed that after several appeals, the Chinese ambassador met Dahal.
It is learned that Dahal has asked the Chinese ambassador to agree to resign PM Oli for communist rule in the country. He bluntly said that Oli's resignation is the best and the last way to maintain stability in the party and improve Sino-Nepal relations. The Chinese ambassador said that Beijing's main objective is not to break the party.
However, the politics of Nepal is moving in the direction where only two options are left, either Oli resigns from the post of Prime Minister and party president or the party is split in two. Amid political instability in Nepal, China's overwhelming dominance or interference is evident, with Beijing playing directly and indirectly. This is something that New Delhi should stop.
