'No man's land' dispute between India and Nepal in Sitamarhi: Nepal again raised the issue of border dispute; Ban on road construction near the border

A new case of a border dispute between Nepal and India has come to light. The Nepal government has objected to the widening of a road being built in India near the border of the two countries. After this, the work on this road has been stopped. This road directly connects many areas of Sitamarhi with Bhithamod on the Nepal border and Janakpur in Nepal. A bridge has to be built here.

A senior official of the department, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that a few days ago the Nepalese authorities had objected to the widening of the road in about 1.10 km of the border. After this, the work on this road has been stopped. This road is being built near the border in the Sursand block of Sitamarhi district, 135 km north of the capital Patna. The official said a letter has been sent to the state home department to resolve the matter. This road is being built by the State Road Construction Department (RCD).

The RCD official said the objection from Nepal came as a 'shock and surprise' as there was a demarcated border between the two countries at the scene. The check posts of both countries were functioning on either side of the no-man's land. We were doing repairs and reinforcements south of the International Pillars and beyond in no man's land.

He claimed that the area comes under regional command, as per the survey records. In such a situation, road construction work in India has come to a halt. People find it very difficult to travel from here. This road directly connects many areas of Sitamarhi with Bhithamod on the Nepal border and Janakpur in Nepal. A bridge has to be built here. The construction work of the bridge was started, meanwhile, the Nepal government has banned it.
