An event was organized by Heritage Auction in New York for the auction of the Nobel Prize. An unknown buyer bought this Nobel Prize for $103.5 million. Muratov was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2021 for 'protecting the Freedom of Expression' along with Philippine journalist Maria Russa.

Novaya Gazeta was founded in 1993

Dmitry Muratov has been working for Freedom of Expression in Russia for a long time. He founded Novaya Gazeta in 1993 along with some associates. Within a few years, the newspaper became the only major newspaper to criticize Russian President Vladimir Putin inside and outside the country.

Muratov has been subjected to deadly attacks several times. In April last, oil paint mixed with acetone was thrown at him on the train, in which his eyes were burnt.
