North Korea's official newspaper warned that relying on outside aid to deal with food shortages would be like taking poison. He said that therefore instead of taking financial assistance from outside, we should focus on being self-reliant. Sanctions have been imposed in North Korea due to Corona due to which many problems are being faced. The country has faced food shortages in recent years. The country has also faced a cut in trade with China due to the ever-increasing restrictions of Corona and the imposed lockdown.

"External financial aid is like poison"

In a commentary, the ruling Workers' Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun warned against receiving economic aid from "imperialists" who use aid as a trap to "rob and subjugate" recipient countries and engage in their internal politics. Let's intervene. The newspaper said that accepting this financial aid is like poison and it is a mistake to try to boost the economy by taking this help.

700 prisoners died due to famine and diseases

This article came from South Korea's Yonhap news agency. Citing an unnamed source, he said about 700 prisoners had died of starvation and disease in prisons in three rural areas, including the central city of Kech'on, in the past two years. But Seoul's Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korea, declined to comment on the report but said on Tuesday that there had been a recent increase in starvation deaths in some of North Korea's provinces.

The level of food production is falling in North Korea

An official in Korea told reporters that food production there has fallen since last year due to changes in the country's food distribution and food supply. In December, South Korea's rural development agency estimated the North's crop output last year at about 4.5 million tonnes, down 3.8% from 2021, citing heavy summer and other weather conditions.

Unification Minister Kwon Young-se said Pyongyang had asked the UN food agency, the World Food Program, to provide aid, but there was no progress due to differences over monitoring issues.
