IndiGo Share Price Today: Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo Airlines, declined more than 2% on Friday after the airline reported a ₹382 crore net loss for the first quarter of FY27. Despite the weak quarterly earnings, brokerage firms remain optimistic about the company's long-term growth, citing strong domestic air travel demand and international expansion.

InterGlobe Aviation shares opened at ₹4,950 and fell to an intraday low of ₹4,886, reflecting investor concerns over the airline's quarterly performance. The company reported a standalone net loss of ₹382 crore for the April–June quarter, compared with a net profit of ₹2,161 crore during the same period last year.

However, the company's operational performance remained strong, with revenue from operations rising 20% year-on-year to ₹24,584 crore, supported by healthy passenger traffic and network expansion.

Why Did IndiGo Report a Loss?

According to the company, the biggest reason behind the quarterly loss was the sharp rise in operating costs.

Key factors affecting earnings include:

Aviation fuel prices surged 85.7% compared to the previous year.

Higher crude oil prices significantly increased operating expenses.

West Asia geopolitical tensions disrupted flight operations.

Weak Indian rupee and strong US dollar pushed up foreign currency-related costs.

The management stated that these external factors weighed heavily on profitability despite robust revenue growth.

Passenger Growth Remains Strong

IndiGo continued to strengthen its leadership position in the aviation sector during the quarter.

Operational Highlights:

3.13 crore passengers carried during Q1 FY27.

432 aircraft in the company's fleet.

Around 2,298 daily flights operated.

Network expanded across 97 domestic and 46 international destinations.

The company believes India's growing air travel demand continues to provide strong long-term growth opportunities.

Brokerage Firms Stay Bullish

Despite the quarterly loss, Motilal Oswal Financial Services has maintained its 'Buy' rating on IndiGo.

The brokerage has assigned a target price of ₹6,580, indicating a potential upside of nearly 31% from current levels.

According to the brokerage, IndiGo's long-term growth strategy remains intact due to:

Strong domestic passenger demand.

Rapid international network expansion.

Continued fleet additions.

Market leadership in India's aviation sector.

Should Investors Buy IndiGo Shares?

While the latest quarterly results were impacted by temporary factors such as rising fuel costs and geopolitical uncertainty, analysts believe IndiGo's fundamentals remain strong. Investors are likely to monitor fuel prices, currency movements, and demand trends in the coming quarters before making investment decisions.
