Nowadays smartwatch has become a necessity of the people, as the pandemic has shifted the attention of people towards health. The watch strapped to your wrist knows all about the number of steps you walk in a day, how much exercise you do, your heart rate, and even your oxygen level. Charging such an important thing is equally important. If someday you forget to charge it, then you also get tensed. In such a situation, if we tell you that now your smartwatch will be charged with sweat, then you probably will not believe it.
However, this is true. Scientists have created a special battery for smartwatches that can be charged with sweat instead of electricity. It is a kind of portable battery, which is specially designed for wireless devices. This battery can charge the smartwatch for up to 20 hours with just two milliliters of sweat.
0.8 square inch portable battery with a plain bandage
Nanyang Technological University in Singapore has developed a portable battery with a plane bandage measuring 0.8 square inches. This battery attaches to a stretchable and sweat-absorbing cloth. It can be worn on the wrist by attaching it to the smartwatch.
ability to store sweat
It can also be installed in other wearable gadgets like smartwatches. It can absorb sweat as well as store sweat. The advantage of this is that the battery continues to work even when sweating is low. For example, if the person is sitting with AC running, or sweating less while sleeping or resting, then at such time the battery already stores enough sweat to keep your smartwatch running.
Search continues for new devices for charging wireless gadgets
The scientist and research head of Nanyang Technology says that this new technology can prove useful for wearable gadgets. He also said that they are looking for more new things for charging wireless gadgets, which are weather-friendly, as well as different from electric-charged batteries.
According to researchers, the sweat of the human body helps charge this battery. Also, this battery will be able to charge all types of wearable gadgets. Researchers first checked with artificial human sweat and found that this battery is making 3.57 watts of voltage, but from human sweat, it produces 4.2 watts of voltage.
Before this, such a device has also come for mobile charging.
Earlier, a team from the University of California, San Diego have designed a device that can charge mobiles without electricity. According to him, after wearing the device while sleeping, sweat will generate electricity, which will be able to charge mobile phones and smartwatches.
The team doing the research said, 'This device can be attached to the fingers. The moisture of the fingers while sleeping will generate electricity. After three weeks of continuous wear, it will be able to charge the smartphone. Its capacity is expected to be increased soon.
This is how the battery charging mobile and smartwatch will work
The device is a thin, flexible band that can be wrapped around the fingers like a plaster for mobiles and wrists for smartwatches. The padding of carbon foam electrodes absorbs sweat and converts it into electricity. The electrodes are equipped with enzymes that trigger chemical reactions between the lactate and oxygen molecules in sweat to generate electricity. As soon as the wearer sweats or applies pressure on the bandage, electricity is generated.
