NPDRR: PM Modi will inaugurate the third session of NPDRR today, award winners will also be honored

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the third session of the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (NPDRR) on Friday. The PMO gave this information in a statement on Thursday. The theme of the two-day third session of NPDRR, held at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, is Building Local Resilience to Climate Change.

According to the PMO, the theme is linked to the 10-point agenda announced by the Prime Minister for building local capacities in the wake of climate change, especially in the rapidly changing disaster risk landscape. The Prime Minister will also honor the winners of the Subhash Chandra Bose Aapda Prabandhan Puraskar during the event.

The winners of this award for the year 2023 are the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and the Lunglei Fire Station of Mizoram. On this occasion, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate an exhibition organized to showcase innovative ideas and initiatives, tools, and technologies in the field of disaster risk reduction.

 

1000 special guests including central ministers will be included

The session of NPDRR will be attended by 1000 distinguished guests including Union Ministers, State Disaster Management Ministers, Members of Parliament, heads of local self-government, heads of specialized disaster management agencies, academicians, representatives of private sector organizations, media, and civil society.

 

The first and second sessions were held in the years 2013 and 2017.

It may be noted that NPDRR is a multi-stakeholder national forum headed by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah. These forums discuss as well as exchange views on ideas, practices, and trends regarding Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). It may be noted that the first and second sessions of NPDRR were held in the year 2013 and 2017 respectively.
