
Kolkata, Feb 25 (IANS) A man was killed and four BSF personnel were injured Wednesday in three different incidents of cattle smuggling at the Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.
In the first incident under Khalshi border outpost, an Indian smuggler was killed when a gang of smugglers attacked a Border Security Force (BSF)patrol party.
"The gang of smugglers attacked the patrol party with stones, lathis and sickles. Constable Sanjeev Kumar fired in self-defence which resulted in the death of an Indian smuggler. Both Sanjeev Kumar and another constable Abdul Karim sustained grievous injuries during the attack," said a BSF officer.
In the second incident, under Angrail border outpost, constable Sanjay Kumar sustained injuries in both his hands when a group of smugglers attacked him.
In another incident of smugglers attacking the border guards, under Bithari border outpost, constable Pankaj Kumar opened fire when he was attacked by some smugglers. A Bangladeshi miscreant was hit by a bullet in the incident, but he managed to flee.
