Sunni Muslim groups, Deobandi Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) have been blamed for the increase in sectarian violence in Pakistan. The Brussels-based International Crisis Group (ICG) has said in its report that political animosity and economic tensions may increase in the country at present, which can pose a challenge to Pakistan. The Government of Pakistan has remained silent on these incidents and looks helpless.

The era of communal violence in Pakistan

A study published by the ICG on September 5 has described a new era of communal violence in Pakistan. The report said that the TLP has been given the status of a political party by the Election Commission of Pakistan, while it has set a record in spreading violence. He said the TLP could threaten mainstream political discourse to consolidate its political clout.

A growing range of terrorist organizations

The report said that TTP, TLP, and other terrorist groups have expanded their reach. All of them have become allies of the Islamic State province of Khorasan (ISPK). The ISPK has spread from tribal areas to other provinces including Afghanistan and Pakistan. "These two groups are very different and are responsible for the communal violence taking place in Pakistan," the report said. The Muslim minority, especially the Shia community, is much more vulnerable.

Pakistan government helpless

According to the report, TTP is responsible for 83000 deaths in Pakistan since 2008, which is defying the government in Pakistan. The TTP indirectly supports the new ruling Taliban in Afghanistan. The Government of Pakistan is struggling to rein in TTP and TLP is exempted. The Government of Pakistan uses TLP to fight people seeking jobs and justice in the country.
