Panic due to a new variant of Corona: Despite Omicron, Corona havoc in Africa less than Europe, new patients and deaths also decreased

The world is deeply concerned about the new variant of Corona 'Omicron'. The European Union hastily banned flights to Africa, causing panic about this variant. The WHO has described Omicron as spreading 7 times faster than the delta variant of the corona. In this context, there has been a possibility of the virus infecting people very fast. The stock market has also fallen sharply due to the fear of its impact on the economy.

There is also a flip side amid the increased concern over the Omicron variant of the corona worldwide and that Africa, from where the new strain originated, has seen a decline in the number of new patients and deaths for the last two months. This is important because the African Medical Association says the Omicron variant has been present in Africa for two months. Since then it has changed its form 45 times. Despite this, the number of deaths is decreasing.

Europe is getting 86 times more new patients than Africa, even more deaths

Only 4,200 patients are being received daily in 54 countries of Africa, which has 17% of the world's population, which is 86 times less than Europe. Daily deaths in Africa are also less than 150. Compared to Europe, this figure is 26 times less. It is a matter of confidence that both daily cases and deaths in Africa have been decreasing continuously for two months. On the other hand, in 45 countries of Europe with 10% of the world's population, 3.63 lakh patients are being found daily. More than 3,880 deaths are taking place every day.

Prime Minister's emergency meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting on Saturday amid apprehensions about Omicron. He asked for monitoring of international flights as well as preparing special surveillance systems for people coming from 'at risk' countries. Also asked to review the announcement of lifting the ban on international flights.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said that BCCI should consult before sending the team to South Africa. The Indian team is going to South Africa to play three Tests, three ODIs, and four T20Is. The team's tour will start on December 17.

Quarantines coming from African countries will be in Karnataka-Maharashtra

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said – Samples of every passenger coming from Africa are being taken. If positive, there will be genome sequencing. The passenger will be quarantined. Every passenger coming to Karnataka will have to stay at home for 7 days. After that, there will be a test. They will be able to leave the house only if the report comes negative. If the report comes positive, then they will be kept at the airport or someplace nearby.
