After months of delay, the first formal peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban have begun on Saturday.
The aim of this is to stop the war that has been going on for two decades, which has taken away thousands of lives.
This peace dialogue is going on in the Gulf country Qatar. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described the meeting between the two sides as 'historic'. They have reached Doha, the capital of Qatar, to attend the opening ceremony of this dialogue.
Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will also participate in this program through an online medium. Indian Foreign Ministry has told that JP Singh, Joint Secretary of the Ministry has reached Doha, he will attend this inauguration ceremony as an Indian representative.
India is also believed to be keenly interested in the Afghanistan-Taliban peace talks and wants the negotiations between the two to be successful.
The talks were to begin in March after the first US-Taliban security agreement in February. But disagreements over the exchange of a controversial prisoner and continuing violence in Afghanistan hindered the next stages of this dialogue.
