The league matches of the 15th season of IPL are over and today the first qualifier match will be played between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Earlier, bad news has come for the fans of IPL. There is a possibility of rain in Kolkata.
In such a situation, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued a guideline for the teams playing in the playoffs. It states that in the event of rain if required, the winner in the playoffs and final can be decided by super over. A reserve day has also been kept for the final match.
Match will start at 1 o'clock at the night
If the playoff match is stopped due to rain, it will not be canceled till 12.50 pm. According to the new guidelines, a match of 5-5 overs can also be played between the two teams. Provided it starts at 11.56 pm.
The deadline for the end of the 5-over match will be at 12.50 pm. If this happens, there will be a 10-minute break between the innings of both the teams and there will be no strategic time out. If the match does not happen by 12.50 pm, then a Super Over will be called.
This will be the first time in T20 cricket that a match will be decided by a Super Over in case of rain. Usually, if both the teams are unable to play even 5-5 overs then the match is called off.
Two hours extra was added to the time of the match, if it rains, the match will go on till late at night
As per the guidelines, the BCCI has added an extra two hours to the playoff and final matches. Till now at 7.30 pm matches had to end within 200 minutes of the start. This extra time means that if it rains, the playoffs will now be able to start till 9.40 pm and in this case, the number of overs will not be reduced. Strategic time out will also continue. However, the time between the start of two shifts will be halved.
If the super over does not happen, then the team that is on the top of the points table will be the winner.
If a situation arises that even a Super Over cannot be played in the match, then the winner will be decided based on the points table. The team leading in the points table after 70 matches will be declared the winner of the playoff or final in case the match is canceled.
Reserve day has been kept for the final
BCCI has kept 30 May as a reserve day for the final of IPL-15. That is if for some reason the match is not over on May 29, then on May 30, the match can be completed. If even one ball of the match is thrown on 29th May, then the match has stopped. From there the next day will start. At the same time, if only the toss is possible on May 29 and the match does not start, then the toss will be done again the next day.
The final match is to start on May 29 at 8 pm in Ahmedabad. In such a situation, the cut-off time has been kept half an hour ahead for matches of 5-5 overs and also for super overs. However, there are no reserve days for the qualifiers and eliminator matches. In these matches, if both innings are not completed, then the result will be drawn by the Duckworth-Lewis rule.
