The event, titled “Surprise and shine,” is scheduled for September 9 at 10:30 PM IST in India. Apple has confirmed the event, while the new iPhone models and their specifications have been widely reported ahead of the launch.

 

Among the most anticipated upgrades is the camera. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to introduce a variable-aperture main camera, a technology that gives photographers greater control over how much light reaches the camera sensor.

 

Why are iPhone cameras considered so good?

 

A smartphone camera's image quality is not determined by megapixel count alone. Several components work together, including the lens, aperture, image sensor, image-processing hardware and computational photography software.

 

The three key elements of a smartphone camera

What is variable aperture?

 

Aperture controls the amount of light entering a camera. A larger aperture allows more light to reach the sensor, which can be useful in low-light conditions. A smaller aperture restricts the amount of light and can provide greater control in bright conditions.

 

A variable-aperture camera can change this opening instead of relying on a fixed aperture.
