IPL 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad's Ranking Improves After Victory Over Mumbai Indians; Who Holds the Orange and Purple Caps?

On Wednesday evening, an exciting clash took place between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium during IPL 2026. Despite posting a total of 243 runs, MI suffered a defeat. SRH successfully chased down the target, scoring 249 runs for the loss of four wickets with eight balls to spare, thereby winning the match by six wickets. Let’s take a look at the changes in the points table, as well as the Orange Cap and Purple Cap standings, following the MI vs SRH match.

 

 

Points Table Update

Punjab Kings currently hold the top spot with 13 points from eight matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore sit in second place with 12 points from eight matches. Following their emphatic victory over MI, SRH has climbed to the third position in the points table. SRH has accumulated 12 points from nine matches. Rajasthan Royals also have 12 points from nine matches; led by captain Riyan Parag, this team occupies the fourth spot.

 

 

Gujarat Titans are placed fifth with eight points from eight matches; Chennai Super Kings are sixth with six points from eight matches; Delhi Capitals are seventh with six points from eight matches; Kolkata Knight Riders are eighth with five points from eight matches; Mumbai Indians are ninth with four points from eight matches; and Lucknow Super Giants, with four points from eight matches, sit at the very bottom—the 10th position. Despite having equal points, the rankings of several teams differ due to their respective Net Run Rates.

 

 

Orange Cap Update

Following the MI vs SRH match, the Orange Cap has once again returned to Abhishek Sharma. Abhishek scored 45 runs off just 24 balls against MI. Abhishek’s total run tally now stands at 425 runs from nine matches. In second place is SRH’s own wicketkeeper-batsman, Heinrich Klaasen. Klaasen, who scored an unbeaten 65 runs off 30 balls against MI, has now accumulated 414 runs across nine matches. In the third position is Rajasthan’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav has scored 400 runs in nine matches.

 

 

Purple Cap Update

The Purple Cap has also gone to SRH fast bowler Ishan Malinga. Ishan has taken 15 wickets in nine matches. In second place is the experienced fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar; Bhuvneshwar has taken 14 wickets in eight matches.
